Full Time Minibus Driver

We have a full time vacancy available for a minibus driver to join our community bus team covering our bus routes running in the Walsall area. These services support primarily elderly residents to access their local town and village centres and operate between 7am and 6pm so we are looking for a candidate with a caring, supportive nature.

This post is for approx. 35 hours per week, 5 days per week, working alternating Saturdays. The successful applicant will need to hold a clean CAR driving licence with D1 entitlement (able to drive a vehicle up to 16 seats) NOTE – you are not required to hold a PCV licence for this position. Ideally candidates should have a clean driving licence, but it is unlikely that candidates with more than six points will be considered.

In addition to undertaking minibus driving duties, the post holder will be required to undertake routine maintenance checks and cleaning duties. Full training will be given to support the successful applicant with non-driving duties.

Additional Requirements

Due to insurance requirements, candidates must be over 25 years of age.

Candidates should ideally have some experience of face-to-face customer care and be comfortable working within a caring environment. Previous experience of carrying passengers with mobility difficulties would be useful but not essential, as full training will be given.

The ability to map read and complete simple paperwork is essential.

The job does involve some manual handling and therefore the successful candidate will need to be able to physically able to move seats on occasions as well as assisting wheelchair users.

Principal Terms and Conditions of Employment

Length of Employment

This is a permanent appointment however all appointments are subject to an initial six-month probationary period which may be extended.

Confirmation of Appointment

The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal disclosure check (CRB). Confirmation of an employee’s employment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory references; CRB; verification of driving licence and entitlement and completion of medical questionnaire.

Holiday Entitlement

Employees are entitled to twenty days paid holiday in addition to statutory Bank Holidays. Holidays must be agreed in accordance with company procedures.

Pension

The company is registered with the Government’s NEST auto enrolment pension scheme and currently contribute 3.5% into the scheme. This will increase in future in line with the government’s minimum certification and access to the pension scheme extends to ‘eligible job holders’ and those ‘non-eligible job holders who opt’ in only.

Uniform

Employees are provided a uniform which must be worn whilst on duty. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that the uniform is kept clean and presentable.

Code of Conduct

Employees are expected to always conform to the standards of professional behaviour.

Notice of Termination

One week during probation period and one month thereafter. Employees terminating their employment during their probationary period will reimburse the company for the cost of their CRB disclosure and uniform.

Contract of Employment

Employees are issued a Contract of Employment within four weeks of commencing their employment.
